Position Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Banquet Manager, plans and coordinates conference meetings, banquets, and/or other special events.  Schedules related activities and facilities.  Prepares and maintains required documentation.  Coordinates internally with all other departments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates planning for banquets and special events, including consulting with banquet clients or event directors to establish goals, services required, and fee schedules.
  • Creates and updates banquet event orders.
  • Coordinates space, exhibits, banquets, receptions, and other applicable activities. Monitors revenues and expenditures to ensure cost effective programs.
  • Provides on-site coordination which includes problem-solving, decision-making, and interaction with local vendors.
  • Prepares and provides post-activity evaluation data, as appropriate to the objectives of the position; prepares scheduled and special reports as required.
  • May perform a variety of administrative functions, including data management and correspondence.
  • Maintains weekly schedule and oversees booking of event and meeting rooms.
  • Acts as liaison to event participants, ensure special event staff are knowledgeable about upcoming events and any special requests.
  • Assists in the operation as needed for all events.
  • Maintains a good communication with co-workers and maintains a positive and professional work environment.
  • May supervise Banquet staff.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Associates Degree and three years experience in special events or banquet; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers card.  Must be 18 years of age.  No felony, theft or stealing convictions.   Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, tips certification, obtain and maintain gaming license and to include the following:
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service standards.
  • Knowledge of dining and food maintenance operations and customer service.
  • Knowledge of all menu items including entrees, side dishes, beverages and desserts.
  • Knowledge of bar operations.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Knowledge of space allocation practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of basic finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Negotiating skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to service customers in a professional appearance and manner.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a stressful and busy environment.
  • Skill in interpersonal and customer relations.
  • Ability to work in hazardous work conditions, such as extreme temperatures, slips and falls on wet or slippery floors, cuts, or burns, normally associated with kitchen work.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate, read, and write clearly in basic English.
  • Ability to demonstrate outstanding guest service at all times.
  • Ability to supervise assigned staff.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in kitchen areas with exposure to heat, fumes and steam and Casino setting with exposure to second-hand smoke and a high noise level.  Evening and/or weekend, holiday will be required.  Extended hours and irregular shifts will be required.
